The Coast Lining Verification Process

How are coastline charts updated?  Senior Surveyor Owen Friedleib, from iXblue, explains the coast lining verification process undertaken on hydrographic surveys.

Firstly, we digitise available aerial or satellite imagery of coastline features onto existing charts of the area we will be surveying.  Then when we’re in the field, we verify the existing and any previously uncharted features, such as awash or permanently dry rocks, into the coastlining sheets.  At the end of the survey, the client is provided with updated coastline charts to aid with the safe navigation for vessels visiting the area.
